In Vital Breath, the role player has complete freedom. All animals are playable from fish, to insects, to birds, to land animals, to pets, to dinosaurs, to prehistoric mammals and birds. Ever hated not being able to play a role play character after they die? You can play the animals that have passed on into the after life as well. Or maybe you just like the role play something different. Want to play a bossy butterfly who likes to live in the cold tundra with a pack of wolves? Go ahead! Thanks to the power of the Guardian spirits of Amanija, all animals have adjusted to living in all climates. And, thanks to the laws of equality, all kinds of animals can live in a group together called a herd.
These herds are like your typical clan, pack, pride, etc except all animals are welcome in them. Animals work together in herds and treat each other as family. Carnivores even learn to survive mostly off plants, though of course, they may hunt loner animals occasionally. In a herd, there is safety from predators, and, as no humans have ever come across the land of Amanija, animals can relax and be at peace.
With five clans, several herds in each clan, a vast land to explore, and complete freedom, Vital Breath is one of a kind. It is a place you can experience over and over again, yet never experience everything. Contests are occasionally held, and staff positions are open. With no posting minimums and no character limits, you'll never have to stress over a role play again.

Updated: Nov. 17, 8:04pm CST Okay, so Vital Breath is going to be re-opened once again. Now things have changed back and forth a lot so I'm going to try to make it all simple right here.
*The dinosaur plot has been dropped. If you have a prehistoric animal, please edit their profile with a new herd and clan. We are pretending the plot never existed and the dinosaurs have always been in Amanija. This also means, however, that you will now only get 2 free extinct animals. If you would like to play another extinct animal, you must buy the item from the shop. *We are staying HERE. We will not be moving to a new thread. *Staff is needed. If you can help with anything, modding, graphics, the newsletter, the WWRW (similar to newsletter, but highlights an animal species,) showing new members how to role play and navigate the site (Mentor,) or anything else, please pm me. *Staff may be a little slow accepting character profiles or anything else like that as we are giving the site a lot of updates. *The site WILL be going into maintenance mode at some point, meaning only staff may log in. We will try to warn you before this happens. There will also be an update here in the news box telling you exactly when it went into maintenance mode, when it will be out of maintenance, and any other important details.
Please keep an eye on the news box often for important updates.

September 1st, all current contests will come to an end. The newsletter will also resume and the "of the months" will be picked. Some, however, may not be picked. For example: no one is currently eligible for "Couple of the Month" so there will not be a winner. I would love for there to be lots of characters eligible for all awards, so start role playing! Also, we really need more entries in the Holiday contest (both summer and fall holidays will be picked September 1st,) the referral contest (you get credit just for advertising with our copy and paste ad,) the avatar contest (don't worry if you aren't that good at graphics because this is a raffle and the winner will be drawn randomly,) and the music player contest (if you win, your playlist of songs will be put in our music player box at the bottom of the side bar.) Please, please, please enter these contests. They are going to end on September 1st, no matter how many participants there are, but we REALLY need more entries! I'd like it to be fair. Hello and welcome to the News box! Here is where important announcements and news can be found. In the box to your right, you will see the smaller Updates box. That box is used for smaller, less important things. Also, don't forget about the Jungle Announcements board. This is where you can find more information on announcements that are in the News box, and also some that aren't.
First off, I'd like to let you all know that big things will be coming to Vital Breath! Vital Breath's birthday is July 17th, and the celebrations will be starting very soon. But that's not all. Many new and wondrous things will be put into action soon, on a date yet to be determined. If you have any more ideas, please pm them to Shadowcat. Also, we are in need of some more staff members. Please see this thread for details.
August 18th Images put up for role playing boards.
August 16th Week 1 of World Wide Rat Weekly posted. Activity check took place. 25 members were deleted, while 23 passed the activity check, meaning they have logged in at least once in the past two months. There were six other members that should have been deleted, but have been good members and so they were left.
July 25th Rules page re-organized. Couple, clan, herd, and staff of the month added.
July 24th Staff page finished. Check it out to see what each ranking does and who to contact for specific problems. Rate Our Site page put up. Go there to see places where you can rate/vote for Vital Breath to increase it's popularity!

On profiles, you should include an age group for your character. You may also use numbers for more exact ages, but you need to include the age group. Animals age at the same rate in Amanija as real animals do, so, if you want to include how many years old they are, please research it on google or elsewhere. If you don't want to, then just put the age group.
In the following list, the numbers beside the age group specify the equivalent of ages a human would be to be in that age group. For example, the newborn group says 0 days to 3 years. That means animals in the newborn group, no matter what their actual age is, would act like a human who has just been born to a one year old baby. They are NOT the ages the animals must be to be in that group.
The Age Groups Are: Newborn (0 days - 3 years) Young (4 years - 8 years) Juvenile (8 years - 13 years) Adolescence (13 years - 18 years) Adult (18 years - 40 years) Mid-Adult (40 years - 60 years) Elder (60 years+)
Animals must be in the adult age group before mating.
Elders can no longer have children.
Animals of different species (say, an elephant an a butterfly) may be mates as in an animal equivalent of marriage. (As long as they love each other, right?) But of course, cannot mate as in have offspring.
You may decide on the number of offspring, any health defects, what they look like, etc. But please remember that not all babies will be healthy. Some may be born blind, others may be still borns, etc. And please keep the number of offspring within reason. Spiders can have several hundred babies. Elephants have one, etc. You could have an elephant that gives birth to two or something, but please don't have an elephant with 100 babies. Be realistic.
Not all babies have to be role played. You can say something like "the spiderlings were all fighting to catch the ant first." But if you want to actually role play them, you need to make a profile for them. You can role play as many of the children as you want. If you want more role played but you don't want to do it, post in the adoptions board. If the owners of the mother and father characters are fighting over who gets to role play a baby (if there is only one baby born or if the mother wants to role play two and only two are born, etc) then the mother gets first pick. After the owner of the mother has picked a baby, the father may pick one, then the mother, then father, etc. The gender, color personality, etc of the baby is decided by whoever decides to role play it, even if someone posts in the adoption boards.
