Kona looked around. Trees were everywhere she looked. A smile showed her little teeth and she walked carefully and silently up to a tree. Her black underbelly dragged against the tree as she jumped up and onto it's trunk. Her claws stuck into the tree and she slowly climbed upwards. She had been exploring this new land today and she had come upon this place. Trees, lovely trees. To climb and to relax in. As she climbed onto a branch, she saw something from the corner of her eye. Immediately her head turned towards it and she saw a cave. A dark cave. A shiver ran up her spine as a cold wind rushed against her and she looked away, over the land she had just crossed and around her.
Sunlight hit her as she closed her eyes slowly, drifting off into sleep. A dreemless sleep. She wouldn't even know she was asleep until she woke up and saw the sun high in the sky.

As sunlight flooded through the entrance into the cave, the sleeping animal inside lifted her narrow head, still drowsy from her sleep. She slowly opened her navy blue eyes and blinked, glad that the sunlight hadn't reached closer than thirty or forty feet from her. She raised her long neck and shook her head to wake up. With that, she seemed completely and totally wide awake. She stood and, after nosing the soft moss and leaves that made up her bedding back in place, she trotted outside.
The strange half-striped creature stopped outside her home and looked up at the bright blue sky, a smile crossing her face. Her short, chestnut fur gleamed in the rays of the sun, and her odd brown, zebra like tail flicking back and forth slowly. "Hello, world!" She greeted, though not to anyone in particular, for she hadn't spotted any other creature yet.
The okapi galloped a few feet away, running the way giraffes do by using both legs on one side at a time. She stopped then and frowned slightly. "First I need to get some food...." She thought for a moment, then looked around at the ground. She spotted some tasty looking leaves on a small tree and walked over to it. Using her long, blue, foot-long tongue, she wrapped it around a twig and used it to strip the leaves off of the branch.
As she chewed, her dark eyes wandered across the surrounding woods. She thought she saw something odd colored in the trees, and froze, wondering what it could be. She was more curious instead of afraid. She finished chewing and swallow the food in her mouth, then slowly approached the red and black animal. It looked sort of like a racoon.... She had seen one of these creatures before, but couldn't remember what it was called.
The giraffe-zebra looking animal stopped right at the bottom of the tree the animal was in. She looked up at the red raccoon thing for a moment, then, suddenly and a bit loudly, spoke. "What are you supposed to be?" Yes, she was a bit blunt sometimes..... But that's what it was like when you were around Evangeline the Messenger.

The red panda woke quickly looking around. A voice had woken her from her slumber. She realized she was still in the tree and she quickly looked down upon a strange animal, it was like a deer or an elk, except it was red fur and white stripes on her back end. She tried to clear away her sleepiness, but failed.
Finally she opened her eyes wide and shook her head once saying, "A red panda, may I ask what you are?" He voice sounded bored or tired, but it also held a bit of curiosity in it and she looked the beast over quickly. Strange animals roamed these lands, much stranger than the animals she had seen back home. She pushed away the sudden home sickness that the thought had brought on. 'This is my home. It is my home now and it shall stay that way. I shouldnt think about the past now.''

"Hmmm...." the animal thought, narrowing her navy blue eyes slowly. "You're pretty small for a panda...." She finally said, ignoring the question. Was that really what this creature was called? Even after hearing the name, it didn't sound familiar. Perhaps when she had seen another.... red panda.... she hadn't ever known what it was called....
Now that her statement was out, she turned to the question she had been asked by the small female. "I'm an okapi, silly," she said, just a hint of rudeness in her tone. She galloped to about ten feet away, then continued to trot in a small circle, as if this display would prove she was certainly an okapi. It sort of did for any who had seen an okapi before. Only giraffes and Evangeline's own kind had that odd sort of run.
Trotting back to the little red creature, she stopped at the base of the tree and looked up. "It's sort of nice having some company around here. Ya' know, if you stick around and all," she said, her voice softer on the last half as she lowered her head slightly. Usually when an animal was in these woods, they were just passing through and were "too busy" to have some fun and romp around with the okapi.

A snowy owl fluttered from branch to branch, but he was more of a sooty gray, like a sooty owl... but different. For a long time he had been alone, wandering through the lands of the strange world void of humans, a world where all sorts of animals came together to live in harmony. But he knew that peace and harmony didn't last forever, there would eventually be some little conflict, and that little conflict would set off a bigger conflict, and before you knew it, you had a full blown war. So the strange sooty colored snowy owl known as Hoole, a name to match his appearance, wasn't about to settle down anywhere soon. He would stay neutral as long as possible, but he knew, war was everywhere, and it would eventually catch up to him. So Hoole treasured every day that went by war-free.
The owl spotted two animals close by, but kept his distance. He was never a social butterfly. He settled in a nice tree hollow and observed the two interacting with each other, he was more of a spectator.

Kona looked over the strange creature and then smiled, but took it back immediately, she couldn't do this, making friends was too risky, she knew that, but it wouldn't hurt hanging around her as long as she didn't get close to anyone, she couldn't risk it. Getting hurt again. "I guess I'll be staying around a while." Kona said as she jumped out of the tree and onto the ground.

"I'm Evangeline, what's your name?" The okapi asked, now looking down at the smaller creature. She moved her head slowly from side to side, taking in the appearance of the panda. She didn't exactly realize she was doing it, however, and continued. "So what're you doin' out here? Explorin'? I love exploring," she said, now looking straight at the red little animal rather than doing her odd head motion. She only stood somewhat still, as she was rocking back and forth slightly. If animals could have ADD, Evangeline would have it.
The giraffe-like animal had yet to notice the owl watching the two of them quietly. She didn't understand quiet. This female liked being in the middle of everything, though not necessarily the center of attention. Mainly she just enjoyed playing or talking with other animals.

Kona looked over the "Okapi", she had never heard of such an animal. "I'm Kona." She said without really thinking about it. There was something strange about this animal...and she liked her because of it. Kona shook her head, 'No, this is wrong, I can't do this not after, mom...' She broke off from her thought mid-way as she felt a pair of eyes on her back.
She looked up and saw it. It was an owl. He or she she couldn't tell. The thing that caught her attention the most was the fact that it was so oddly colored. It looked like it could've been a barn owl except it was black, pure black. No spots broke blackness. It was smaller than most owls, so it could've been a year old.
She looked back at Evangeline quickly and said, "J-Just looking around." She had a tendency to stammer when she was quite nervous. Such a strange sight was rare.

Hoole tilted his head to the side, a little red creature was looking at him. It seemed as if he'd been discovered, but then then the creature turned away, looking as if it had seen a ghost. Oh well, maybe it wasn't looking at him after all. He adjusted his wings and settled down, he was quite tired, he hadn't rested much since he arrived in this land. Maybe these were peaceful animals, there didn't seem to be that many of them, only himself and these two.

The okapi gave a nod to signify she had heard the red panda's name. Acting is if she had decided that wasn't enough, she spoke. "Hmmm Kona.... Never heard that name before. Not bad though, I guess." The animal paused and her expression showed she was thinking. "Yeah, definitely not bad," she replied, more positively, with another nod of her long, thin head. This was probably as close as Evangeline would come to complimenting someone. It wasn't that she was one of those animals that felt like complimenting someone was humbling themself, it was just that the female didn't seem to think there was a need for compliments. Of course, she just became excessively flattered if one complimented her.
A bit absentmindedly, Evangeline followed Kona's gaze. She looked back at the red panda, at first not realizing that the black object in the trees was out of place. She quickly glanced back up and finally noticed the owl nestled in the tree hollow. "An..... owl?" She thought aloud, forgetting all about Kona as she slowly walked toward the bird. Maybe it wasn't an owl.... After all, when had there ever been a black owl?
The okapi slowly made her way to the tree, her dark blue eyes locked onto the creature. Hmm.... Two strange creatures in one place, she thought, not counting herself into the mix. She stopped just under the tree and looked up for a moment before putting her front hooves up on the bark of the tree and stretching so she was closer to the predator. "Are you an owl?" She asked the animal. It certainly looked like an owl, especially now that it was close up, but she wanted to be sure.

Hoole fluttered his wings when the Okapi creature took a close look at him. Feeling momentarily threatened, he flew to a neighboring tree. He faced the creature and took a closer look at it, he had never seen anything like it, but that wasn't saying much. He had barely seen any animals besides owls. He tilted his head to the side, an odd habit of his when he spoke, "Yush, I's an owl. What's you? Not owl, 'm I right?" Some creatures thought his form of speak strange, adding another difference between him and the rest of the world, but to him there was no difference.

As the owl flew off, Evangeline frowned, wondering if for a moment he would fly away. When he merely landed on another branch, she gave a small smile and took her hooves down off of the tree. She then walked closer to him once more, only without standing on two legs this time.
As he spoke, Evangeline squinted her eyes a moment, then gave a sharp shake of her head and snorted quietly, biting back her retort of "you talk funny." She wanted to say it so, but even she wasn't that rude. Wondering what sort of owl this was, she carefully studied the winged creature.. Maybe it was a new kind of owl? Maybe it was just really dirty and hadn't bothered to clean it's feathers.
"No, I'm not an owl!" The animal replied, a bit harshly. The question was a bit absurd, after all. "I'm an okapi."

Kona smiled at the birds strange speak and then looked back at her new...friend. Was she her friend? No she couldn't be her friend. It was just too absurd. Oh well, she would put up with this 'okapi' for now and get on with her life.

Hoole slouched over a bit when the okapi, whatever that was, yelled at him, "I's s'rry... never has I seen ok'pi." his voice was young and innocent, just like him. He shifted a bit uneasily, looking at the ground, not meeting anyones' eyes. He was a timid creature, and not too sure of himself.

Evangeline didn't say anything for a moment, realizing she had been a bit rude. She hadn't meant to startle him or anything, she merely didn't see her boldness in speech. She wasn't about to apologize though. That would be too embarrassing.
At his apology, Evangeline took a step toward him and smiled, somewhat amused. She then voiced why she was amused. "Yeah. most haven't seen an okapi before. I guess my kind isn't very common," she said. "But then again, there are all types in this land. I've seen lots of new animals I've never seen before. And you are a first too. I've never seen a black owl. What kind of owl are you anyway?" The female assumed he was a different species of owl she had never met, rather than the rare color variation that he was.
"Oh, I'm Evangeline, by the way," she said, looking around for some breakfast, as she hadn't finished before spotting Kona. She spotted a tree that suited her and galloped over to it. Again, she used her long blue tongue to strip the leaves off. With her mouth full, she turned her head back to the black owl. "What's your name?"
