Zane smiled and gave a nod. "It is fine. This does seem like a good spot for a nap," he said. A nice place far from the water.... He added in his head.
And with that, the zebra put his head to his chest without it touching the sand, much like Abalar. He allowed the last of his embarrassment and fear to leave him and he relaxed, taking a deep breath then letting it out again. He closed his eyes and waited. He didn't really think he would sleep, but perhaps he could rest, if nothing else.
Zane decided it was quite nice being like this. With the quiet waves in the distance, the warm sand, and a friend beside him. It was pleasant and peaceful. It reminded him a bit of afternoons spent napping his his herd before the humans had separated them. It was familiar, and yet it was different. It was new, for he was in a new place with a new friend waiting for a whale. But it was nice. It was almost like Abalar was his brother and they were a family.... Would the whale's herd be like that? A place where one could sleep and eat with and talk to their herd-family? Where they didn't have to worry and only needed to enjoy themselves?
Herd or not, Amanija is a wonderful place. It's not like back in the savannah where I used to live. There's nothing much to worry about. And predators shouldn't be much of a problem if one is in a herd, Zane thought, already feeling himself drifting to sleep with the peaceful thoughts. It might be... kind of nice.

The dark waves filtered the sunlight that was lazily drifting into the sea. Bubbles rose from the deep abyss as Tumolt was returning from her dive to the bottom to feed on krill. She was running low on air so she was coming up fast, casing the water above her bubble with air she was letting out of her blowhole. The water bubble as if it were boiling over 500 farenheit. As Tumolt neared the surface she let out echoes of her song.
She breached the surface and let out a huge blow of water. To land creature it would sound like a hiss and an explosion. Then she slapped her fluke against the water making a whacking sound. She continued breaching, blowing, and fluke slapping for several minutes until she had enough oxygen to dive again.

Abalar had been asleep for some time, when a noise caught his attention. Being a prey animal, Abalar never really slept deeply, just snoozing with all his senses alert for danger. The noise he heard was quickly followed by another, slightly louder noise, both coming from the direction of the ocean. He was unwilling to come out of his self-created stupor, content to snooze in the sun all day. Something told him that he should awaken, so he opened one eye slightly, and looked out across the water.
There, out quite a bit, was a large mass that looked like it was floundering around. Abalar chuckled, as the sight, even from this distance, looked funny. Every so often, the mass would slap its tail, and about five seconds later, Abalar would hear the sound of it hitting the water. A quick wave of anger passed through Abalar, as this obviously living mass had forced him out of his contentment. It didn't disperse completely though, even when Abalar remembered that the leader of Sasukaeill was a whale, and would be on the water. Abalar couldn't be sure from this distance, but the mass resembled a whale.
Abalar got up slowly and stretched. He glanced at Zane, and thought about waking him. He looks content like I did. I wouldn't want to wake him for nothing. I'll take a look first, then if the mass does prove to be the leader, I'll come back here and wake him. Besides, he'd have to go closer to the water, and I don't think he'd enjoy it that much. Abalar thought to himself. Turning, he picked up a slow, lazy trot, and headed towards the water. He slowed at the water's edge and looked out to the water. The mass did resemble a whale. As he was about to turn back for Zane, Abalar caught sight of a sand bar, peeking above the water about a hundred metres out. It hadn't been there before, Abalar was sure, so it must have been revealed by the tide. He slipped into the water, which was quite a bit colder than he was. Abalar soon adjusted though, and quickly arrived at the sand bar. He was closer to the mass, but was still quite a ways away.
"Hello There!" Abalar called out, not wanting to sound rude or anything. If the mass didn't hear him, then he would return to Zane, but if it did hear him, then he would talk to it and figure out what was going on.

A nagging feeling tugged at Zane, trying to wake the zebra. He was hearing the noise that was being made, but he was still most of he way asleep and couldn't even place the odd feeling as noise. Slowly but surely, the feeling woke him. Lazily, he opened his dark blue eyes and looked in the direction the sound was coming from. He saw some massive thing that he would have said was a rock, if it had not been moving. He also saw Abalar standing on a patch of sand out at sea. Was that moving thing the whale? It looked awfully big to be a living animal. But then again, he had never really seen a whale either. He was just told it was a big sea creature.
The striped zebra got to his feet and watched the two in the distance for a moment before deciding to come closer. He took off for the water at a gallop, but slowed as he neared it. He stopped at the water's edge and craned his neck high in the air, trying to see better. He said nothing, as he wasn't sure that the whale or whatever it was could hear him from where he was at. He'd probably have to relay anything he wanted to say to Abalar first. If only he could swim and wasn't afraid of the water.... Fat chance of that EVER happening, he thought.

As Tumolt breached another time, she heard something from the shore "Hello There!" Tumolt looked and saw a horse standing on the shore. Strange, land creature really never talked to her but she was a kind whale. So she started kicking her tail and headed as close to shore as her massivs size allowed. She came even closer and soon her flippers s-blocked-ed against the sand. "Who calls me?" Tumolt asked.
As she neared even closer she saw that there was a zebra there as well. Super wierd.

Abalar almost spooked when the mass responded and approached him. The size of it was immense, which almost caused Abalar to to turn and run. He quickly glanced around and over his shoulder, and saw Zane standing at the shore, craning his neck so he too could see the mass. Abalar snorted, and turned back to face the mass. The speed at which it had moved caused Abalar to panic. His eyes enlarged, his nostrils flared, and he pinned his ears. Abalar backed up a bit, and reared, out of instinct. What if it runs over my sand bar? Abalar thought, panicked.
Then, Abalar's sensible, thinking mind returned, and Abalar was able to realize that this was almost definitely the clan leader, and that, if he hoped to become part of the herd, he should probably respectfully greet the whale mass. "Who calls me?" the mass said.
"I did, your... whaleness... I am called Abalar, and my friend, standing back at the shore, is called Zane. We are interested in joining your herd... you are the leader of Land of Sea I assume."
Abalar then realized he was still in his defensive posture, and quickly unpinned his ears, and bowed his head, in a sign of respect.

Although the whale, or whatever it was, still wasn't that close to him, Zane's ears briefly flattened to his head as he realized the size of the creature. When it came closer to Abalar and Zane could truly see how huge it was, he feared for his new friend. What if this giant wasn't friendly? What if it was going to eat Abalar? Did whales eat horses? What if it came after him too? With a shake of his head, Zane put the silly thoughts aside. He was probably just over reacting.
His brief fear leaving him, his muscles relaxed and his ears turned forward, trying to catch anything it might say. He took a few cautious steps until the water was about half way up his legs, then he stopped and listened. What was going out out there? What were they saying?

Abalar started to become more and more nervous when the whale mass didn't reply. He thought about restating the shared request of zebra and horse, but Abalar didn't want to seem rude. He tossed the idea around in his head, mulling it over. He decided that it would be best to wait for a little longer. He wasn’t hot, as the water that was still in his coat was absorbing most of the heat.
Abalar began to unconsciously pick up his feet then lower them, one at a time, in a walking pattern. However, he didn’t move forward or backward, he just stayed in the same place. This was one of Abalar’s nervous habits, and he never knew he was doing it until the nervousness passed.
He swung his neck around and looked back at Zane. He seemed to be afraid of the mass as well, as his ears were flattened against his head. Abalar snorted and shook his head. He then turned back to the mass. It still hadn’t replied, so Abalar decided to restated their request, only louder this time, just in case the mass didn’t hear.
"Excuse me your whaleness for being persistent, but my friend and I wish to join your herd. My zebra friend at the shore is called Zane, and I am called Abalar. We are assuming that you are the herd leader of Land of Sea,” Abalar said, almost yelling.

(((OOC: hold your horses! literrally, sorry i was gone for so long, i was grounded XO))))
When the horse addressed Tumolt, she replied with a bit of a snuff "Whaleness? Please, you need not to adress me as such. Feel free to adress me as Tumolt, leader of Sasukaeil." She swam a little closer and then bagn to drift. The sun felt good on her back as the waves lapped her body rising above the waves. When the horse asked to join Sasukaeil, she simply replied "Well, its unusual for land dwellers to join a herd of the sea. And your little zebra friend there is obviously scared of swimming. But...I'll guess you can join."

"Thank you Tumolt, let me just return to my friend and let him know," Abalar said, turning before he finished his sentence. He then entered the water, and started swimming back to the shore.
As he swam, he drifted into his own thoughts. This was one of Abalar's final steps to truly stop grieving his parents. They never had joined a heard, but were going just before they died. Finally, that part of his history was tied down and connected. Abalar didn't know what was next, but he felt that there was something left. As he this mulled over in his head, he continued to swim to shore, however, his mind was mainly on thinking, rather than swimming, so his progress slowed.
It took Abalar twice the amount of time to return than it had to go out to the sand bar. He didn't even notice his hooves start to touch the sandy ground under the water. However, when Abalar was no longer able to swim easily, he remembered where he was and brought himself mentally back. He had drifted slightly farther down, but Abalar got out and trotted to where Zane was standing.
"The whale Tumolt has said that she will allow us to join her herd," Abalar said to Zane.

Zane waited patiently for Abalar to return and tell him what was being said, however, his heart was full of anxiety. This creature was so huge... Maybe it wasn't a good idea to ask it to allow them to join... Or maybe he was just worrying too much and everything would be fine. It might turn out that the large creature was nice and the herd was nice and everything would be great.
As Abalar began to swim back to him, Zane began pacing the shore. His horse friend looked distracted. Had the whale thing upset him? Maybe it had told him to leave and never come back or it would eat them as a mere snack. The zebra snorted at the thought.
As Abalar told him that the whale, for that was indeed what the large creature was, had allowed them to join, Zane felt relief wash over him. His dark eyes turned toward the large whale, Tumolt, in the distance. As his way of thanking her, he gave a dip of his head, then, realizing she might not be able to see it from so far away, he reared and kicked his front legs, letting out several loud zebra-barks.
Confident that Tumolt had now seen his sign of thanks, Zane turned back to Abalar. "Thank you for asking her on my behalf," he said, giving a small dip of his head again. "It may become a problem whenever I need to talk to her. It may even be a problem for both of us, as she can't come very close to the shore. But we can manage. It will probably be helpful for her to have some land animals that can carry messages to other clans or herds," he said thoughtfully.

Abalar dipped his head to show he agreed with his friend.
"Yes, it may prove some difficulty to talk with our leader. However, you are also correct that we will be useful to her, as we can run messages to other herds. I haven't seen any sign of other herds wishing to communicate with Tumolt though. It seems that we might have to do the communicating so others know we exist."
Abalar glanced around. He looked at the mass of their new leader. Some thoughts entered his head, but he quickly shook them away, moving his head almost so that it would help.
"Oh my friend, what have we gotten ourselves into," Abalar said almost jokingly.

The zebra gave a snort of laughter at his friend's words. "Whatever we have gotten ourselves into, we are in it together. We will manage," Zane replied, giving an equine smile and a content flick of his striped tail. It was always nice to have one of your own kind when dealing with anything complicated. Granted, Abalar was not exactly Zane's kin, but close enough.
"Let's get something to eat, then settle down for the night," Zane suggested. After all, the goal that he had set out to do was complete. He had found the whale who owned the Land of Sea herd and joined it, finding a good friend along the way. Although, it scared Zane slightly how quickly he had come to like this horse. It was not common for him for a friendship to happen so fast. At least, not for him. He had only just met Abalar, and yet, he liked the fellow equine quite well and he didn't feel quit so alone. Not that he had ever really felt alone, but Zane didn't have much of anyone to talk to.
The black and white creature gave one final look at the ocean. The great waters held both his herd leader, and his fears. It was an odd concept, and quite hard to grasp. Who knew; maybe Zane would one day conquer that fear of the water. It didn't seem likely, but, after all, he was not nearly as afraid of the water as some animals were of other things. Maybe, just maybe, he could overcome this phobia.
((I don't really have any more ideas for this thread. Want it to be finished?))
