Female
Clan:
Neutral
Herd:
The first herd ever to exist
Mate:
None
Friends:
Guardians Zarif and Sheff
Family:
None
Species:
Eudorcas thomsoni (Thomson's Gazelle)
Physical Description:
Johari is about a thirty inches tall at the shoulder and weighs around thirty pounds. She has a light brown coat with white underparts and a distinctive black stripe. Her horns are short, black, and of little use. The white patch on her rump extends to underneath her tail but no further.
Slim and sleek as gazelles usually are, Johari is a little bit odd in the way she looks in the sense that she's a little bit heavier than most. She has an almost squarish build and slightly shorter legs than most, and in general she just looks like she's a little too big for her species.
Her head is slightly rounder than what would be considered normal, and are usually held low, giving her an almost constant stern expression. Her eyes, however, are far less commanding; dark and round, her gaze is soft and affectionate; a surprising, odd trait of hers.
While some of her kind come off as frail or thin, she has a certain air around her that tells other creatures that she's different from that stereotype. Solid and stocky as a gazelle can get away with, she's an odd one; but most are afraid to say so, because she looks like she might be able to bite back.
Johari has slightly broad shoulders and a straight back, giving off the feel that this is not a creature who toys with meaningless matters. She has a tendency to slowly shake her head from side to side when she's angry or flustered, an act that warns of approaching anger.
Personality:
Johari is a doe of few words. She never wastes time or breath on anything, being a practical, methodical sort of creature. If something doesn't appear to be worth her time, she won't bother with it. Trivial and frivolous matters don't even get a second thought in her mind.
When she does speak, she says what she means and means what she says. And she does what she'd said she'd do, which is something that's coming more and more rare in this world. If she's promised someone that she'll do something, she'll do it, even if it costs her life in the process.
Persistence is a keyword when describing this hardy little gazelle. She has quite the will of iron despite her small stature, and even to all those bigger creatures, it's a fair warning straight off; don't get in her way! She isn't completely defenseless, after all. Get in her way and she'll find a way to get around.
Johari can be described as a rock, or the voice of common sense. She doesn't go with her gut instincts and instead uses her head, but that also means that she's incredibly slow to come to a decision. She's a warm-hearted animal, fond of her fellow creature and willing to lend a patient ear to those she deems worthy.
She is, however, unbearably inflexible in her opinions and convictions. She has a firm sense of where her values are, and to compromise them would mean that the end of the world is coming very, very soon. An old-fashioned sort of girl, she's a bit boring and predictable. But at least you know what to expect.
History:
Johari was not born into the lands Amanija. But then again, she wasn't really born on the plains of Africa, either. She was actually born in an ancient zoo. Her mother and father had been born wild, however, and told their daughter stories about life on the savanna, with cheetahs and chases and sun and grass...
But she never really dreamed of going out into the wild. Why should she? She was safe and well-fed there, while escaping would put her in danger of a cheetah's claws or the pangs of hunger. In fact, she has had one and only one big occurrence in her life. And oh, what an event it was!
While Johari wasn't interested in escaping, her parents were. But they didn't want to leave their daughter behind and never see her again, either. So they formulated a plan; lead her out of the enclosure (which they had already found an opening out of) while it was dark, and don't tell her where they were going.
Childishly trusting of her parents, the young gazelle did as she was told and, without knowing, escaped the confines of her human captors. The poor animals were terribly confused out on the streets; her mother and father were attacked and killed by a stray dog.
Ask her how it happened and she wouldn't even be able to tell you herself, but somehow she ended up far away from human civilization. Wandering about, she, Sheff, and Zarif stumbled across Amanija. Eager to take advantage of the paradise, she decided to stay, and has ever since, even after peacefully dying of old age.
