Katie laughed as she saw the cat clumsily fall over backwards. She tired to hold it in, but only ended up laughing harder. "You are quite the graceful, skilled cat," she joked, laughing more. She had to admit though, she couldn't see how any animal like that could ever walk with such large paws and long tail. Then again, that was probably just because that wasn't what she was used to. Her own body being small and thin.
The dog-like creature gave a nod to the cougar and began to look for something to eat. She scanned the area with her warm brown eyes, but saw nothing. She began walking at a casual pace. She didn't want to wear herself out by going faster, though she could keep at this for quite some time. That was one of the two methods her kind used. Endurance. Keep chasing your dinner until it was too tired to run.

Blade grinned sheepishly, as Kattie laughed at him. But he loped after her. His eyes scanning the desert, his tail twitching, as he padded after Kattie. His long legs training his sharp muscles out and back, as his legs carried him swiftly forward.

The female walked quietly for a few minutes, eyes scanning, ears perked. If she couldn't find prey, maybe she could find some tasty kind of plant. Katie had adapted quite well to eating plants since she came to this strange land. She had always hated hunting because it meant that she had to take a life. She hated death as it was, but that she had to be the one to make the kill when hunting just made it worse. She always tried to make it as quick and painless as possible for her prey.
Wanting to get to know her knew friend a little better, and deciding that she would probably see her prey before it could hear her, she turned to look at the cougar as she walked. "So how long have you been in Amanija, Blade?" It was a simple, somewhat trivial question, but it was something.

Blade's whiskers twitched his ears flicking as he counted in his head. "only a couple of days" he answered. "How long you been here?" he asked looking at Kattie curiously. His stomach growled. I hope we find something soon..

Katie glanced at her new friend, hearing his question, then turned her gaze back to her surroundings as she replied. "About three and a half years, I suppose. So roughly half of my life." She said it without much thought as to really how much time that was. Half of her life she had been in this great place..... It really was something to think about, though she had thought about it many a time before.
Deciding she should, out of courtesy, explain while she had been looking for a new place to stay since she had lived in the area so long, she continued speaking. "I didn't leave my family, who also live in Amanija, until about a year ago. I've moved around a lot since then. I just haven't found that one place that just says "home" yet, you know?" Her voice was kind and thoughtful now as she pondered over what that home might be like. She had never joined a clan and had planned on living on her own, but now she wondered if maybe "home" might be in a herd. Not just any herd, but a specific one.... However, which herd, she was not sure.
It was not long after this that the thylacine froze as a large desert rat ran out from behind a sand dune. Katie's muscles stiffened, as she watched for a second. Already having a plan, she quietly told Blade, "Wait here and get ready." Then, without explaining, she quickly bound off, taking long strides. She was pretty fast, but so was the rat. Still, this shouldn't be too hard. She was certain her endurance was better than that of the rat's, and she had experience in the second way thylacines hunted: ambush.

"huh" Blade said, as he paded forward. HUnger gurgling in his belly. "Pretty long time to be padding around the same place..." he murmured. Seemed odd to him. He hadn't staid in one place for longer than a couple of weeks. "Never staid in one place very long, so maybe im not the best to be asking, but, Why stay?"

Katie hardly heard Blade as she bound off, but decided to answer him after their prey was captured, which didn't appear to take long. Once she had almost caught up to it, she moved to one side until the rat turned, as did the thylacine. Now they were headed back the way they came. The tiger-dog-like creature was herding the creature right toward the waiting cougar.
Of course, the rodent wasn't about to run right into the cougar and veered off suddenly to the left. Katie followed and once more moved to it's left to make it turn right. Apparently, the rat didn't realize how close it was to Blade and ran right up to him, likely not realizing the waiting teeth and claws until it would already be too late. This would work out well for Katie, as she hated killing.
((Really thylacines would probably just bite something that small and only ambush bigger prey, but I wanted to make it more fun. XD))

Blade padded up to where Katie stood with her kill. He motioned that she should eat. "I can find something for myself. You are probably much hungry than I am" he said.

((Er I meant she was chasing the rat toward him so he could easily kill it but I'll just say she bit it's neck.))
Katie stood looking down at the limp body, regretting having to take it's life. She looked back up at Blade, then gave a nod. "If you're sure," she said, sitting down on the warm sand. "If you want me to help you catch something later, let me know. What are friend's for, after all?" She gave a barking laugh, then turned her brown eyes back to the small creature. She still hadn't taken a bit yet. Killing was not something she enjoyed, and every time she did it, it took a few moments before she could get herself to eat. It had always been like this, and it probably would always be. For this, she was immensely thankful that, odd as it was, she could eat mostly fruits in Amanija. Still, she craved meat some, and she knew she needed to eat it at least part of the time.
Giving a sigh and silently thinking sorry to the rat for taking it's life, she bent forward and ripped a piece of the meat off with her sharp teeth. After chewing it slightly, she swallowed and wrinkled her nose at the smell of blood. It smelled wonderful and tasty, yet at the same time reminded her of the cold blooded creature she was.
The thylacine knew Blade had probably noticed her reaction by now and was probably thinking she was being silly for doing what she had to do to live a healthy life. She felt a bit embarrassed because of that, and her ears gave a twitch. Still, she felt sorry for the poor animal.
If there is an afterlife, I shall certainly be sent to whichever part is bad for killing innocent creatures.... Hopefully I will at least be able to apologize to all of them, even if it means I am still sent to the bad place, she thought, staring down at her prey again before reluctantly eating some more of her meal.
