The sand dunes spread as far as any eye could see. Standing as tall as a tree in some places, short as a mouse in others. The sun beating down from high above, the only escape being some shrinking cacti shadows. Through this baking world a long thin shape slipped over the sand. Legs pumping, paws hitting the sand and slipping some into it. The tawny cougar flashed across the sand, his large paws keeping hi from sinking. Blade was panting hard. "I.Have.To.Stop" he huffed. skidding to a stop, spinning slightly. "Oh.My.God.Its.So.Hot" he panted, sifting into the shadow of a sand dune. "Mabey-mabey I should try to sleep..." he huffed slipping down n his belly. Lying like he was, his cream belly hidden, his tawny pelt made him almost invisible. Closing his topaz eyes his mind and senses slipped into darkness, as he fell asleep.

As the strange, thought to be extinct creature trekked through the endless sands, she couldn't help but notice her empty stomach. The thylacine, which resembled some sort of dog, though she was actually a marsupial, began searched for something to eat. She lifted her long muzzle into the air and sniffed, squinting her eyes due to the blazing sun. It was a bit hot out here, but she was already getting used to the temperatures that, strangely enough, didn't really bother her.
The Tasmanian tiger known, as Katie, blended in well with her surroundings. Her short fur was sandy colored, accented by darker tan stripes on her lower half, and dark, warm, brown colored eyes. The most noticeable thing was her dark brown tail, covered in black flecks. Even though, she blended in fairly well, and she was thankful for that. She was a little skittish, and preferred to stay out of sight.
As Katie padded through the sand, trying to smell something that might be edible, she didn't notice the large cat sleeping. She ended up almost stepping on him, but saw him and stopped an inch or two away. She blinked and looked curiously at the cougar, walking slowly around him. She was a little nervous, since he looked so much larger, than her, but she couldn't help but wonder why this cat was just lying here. Was he just resting, or was he hurt?
The tazzy tiger cautiously sniffed the tawny cougar. Should she wake him to see if he was alright? Probably not... He might attack her out of reflex.... Maybe I should just wait and see if he wakes up, she thought. So, she retreated about ten feet away, then lie down on the warm sand.

"li-lilly?" Blade murmured. He knew he was dreaming, but that didn't matter right now, not as his small sister sat laughing next to him. They sat in a field of flowers, all the colors in the world blooming around them. Than all went black... Lilly faded into the darkness and disappeared.... "no" Blade hissed through his teeth. "NO!" The tawny cougar's eyes snapped open."What!" he hissed, his topaz eyes darting this way and that, before locking on a strange animal in front of him. Blade's sharp eyes took in every thing. Its canine shape, its sandy fur. The darker stripes on its hindquarters, and its dark brown tail.. It was not a creature he had seen before, and that made him wary. But his overly curios mind over powered that internal sense. He sat up on his haunches. His eyes curiously looking over the animal. "What are you? And who are you?" he asked after a second, his eyes drilling into the canines.

When the cat gave a start as he awoke from his dream, Katie flattened herself against the sand, nervously. Her leg muscles tensed, ready to bound off if the cougar seemed to be a danger to her well being. For now though, she had no real reason to leave. She was a bit hungry, but it was nothing urgent.
As she watched how the feline looked at her, she knew that he must not have seen another like her before. That was to be expected. She had received many a strange stare from other animals as they looked at a creature that looked like some sort of hybrid. She hoped that most of the strange looks were from surprise, rather than dislike.
When he spoke to her, she rose her head and hesitated a moment. "I'm known as a thylacine.... My kind is rather rare," she said softly. She then wasted no time in introducing herself. "My name is Katie, and I am traveling through here to look for a new place to stay." She knew full well that she wouldn't be able to stay here for long though, do to the fact she was not part of the Deterahn clan. Still, perhaps none would mind her stopping for a rest.

Blade tilted his head to the side, topaz eyes shinning. "katie?" he wasn't really asking, just trying the name out. He grinned at the thylacine, Blade was pro weird. Stuff like this didn't bother him in the least bit. He heaved himself to his paws, still grinning. "Thylacine... hmm never heard 'a them before.. sounds cool though." he laughed, his bright enthusiastic personality showing through. [glow=red,2,300]I am traveling through here to look for a new place to stay[/glow] Blade tilted his head the other way, watching the canine... marsupial thing. "Doesn't seem like there'd be much in the way of homes out here" he grumbled...

Even though it wasn't as question, Katie automatically gave a nod at the mention of her name. Her deep, warm, brown eyes stared back at the cougar, though not rudely so. Her eyes swam with curiosity, and a bit excitement. It was nice to talk to someone.
The coyote like animal sat up and smiled at the male as he confessed his lack of knowledge about her kind. "Few have heard of us," she said casually, rather than with sorrow. It was kinda of cool being a species that few knew of. It was like you were a mystery to the world, and only you understood that mystery. Then again, it was nearly impossible to find a mate, and it could be lonely when you knew no other like you.
The thylacine sighed slightly at his next words. "That's true. There isn't much here. I suppose I just sort of wondered if there was anything in this direction." She looked at the horizon that was in the direction that she was headed toward before she saw the large cat. "But it appears that the sands stretches on forever....." A slightly downcast tone dipped into her voice. Endless sand meant there probably wasn't any food near by either. She could stand it though. It wasn't as though she was starving.
The creature considered asking the feline why exactly he had been napping out here in the middle of nowhere, but she figured it wasn't her business, and didn't ask.

Blade blinked. "It is a very large dessert" he mumbled. His ears twitched.Every movement shifting the blazing sun's light some were else on his body. "But there is an end to it, just as there is an end to everything.."he mused. Staring at Katie with out really seeing her. Staring through her back through the years to his memories.... Blade shook his head. stop being a twit He grinned at the thylacine. "I'm sure you could dig up a rabbit or a snake if you were desperate!" he laughed.

Katie blinked, then nodded and gave a sigh. "Of course. It just seems endless. I have no idea how far through it I am." She thought for a moment, then gave a yawn. She half hoped she was mostly through the desert, but she also sort of liked being here.
The thylacine gave a lop-sided smile that was normally given with grim humor or when one was trying to think of what to say. "I'm not quite that hungry," she said with a laugh. "A nice desert hare does sound lovely right now though." She imagined the soft fur, the warm meat, the smell of rodent, and taste..... This only made her hunger worse. Still, she had experienced times far worse. Katie was certain that she would find food soon, probably without even looking. And she couldn't get lost in the desert if she just continued in one direction either.
The cougar seemed nice enough, and Katie didn't really want their conversation to end, though she couldn't think of much of anything to talk about. Deciding to go along with what she had been wanting to ask since she had spotted him.
"I hope you don't mind my asking, but, what are you doing out here?"

I hope you don't mind my asking, but, what are you doing out here?
Blade sighed. He knew this question was coming. "Trying to escape the past actually..." he murmured. Staring unseeingly again. He shook his head ruffly. "What better place to do so than in the very sands of time?" he asked. He had always thought deeply into things and this is the very image he had conquered up. Upon wandering into this place, he had begun to think of it as the pit of life, slowly wearing down...

Katie tilted her head to one side and blinked as she listened. She then smiled. It amused her how the cougar had worded his explanation. At times, she spoke in metaphors like that as well. "It seems we all have something in our past that we would certainly like to forget about," she said reassuringly. With a grin, she playfully added, attempting to cheer him up, "you might be in the wrong place for that though. Wouldn't it be better to bury those memories in the depths of the ocean?" She gave a quiet laugh. Perhaps she would become good friends with this cat.
As the thylacine paused, glancing around at the endless sand for something to do, she turned her head back to the male. "From my point of view, we seem to be becoming friends already, and I don't even know your name." Again, Katie held that somewhat playful tone.

Blade grinned. "My name is Blade" he chuckled. "And perhaps if I could swim I could attempt that!" he laughed. He flicked his ears. "And we are friends already.. aren't we.." he mused."Thanks, by the way.. For waking me up that is.." The large tawny cat shuddered. "I was dreaming again..." he grimaced his lips pulling back over his teeth, and his eyes revealing for a second a deep conflict...

When the cougar, Blade, laughed, Katie laughed along with him. "Yes, I suppose we are already friends," she replied, a grin crossing her oddly wide mouth. She always loved having lots of friends, and you could never have too many. For that matter, you could never have enough.
"No problem," she replied, a small smile still across her snout. Her smile dropped into a slightly worried frown when she saw something flash across Blade's face. It was brief, but she recognized it. Pain. Not the kind of pain one got from having been attacked in battle. Pain far worse that healed far more slowly. Pain that was like a set of razor sharp claws had been slashed through your very soul. The thylacine hadn't experienced anything like that, and couldn't completely identify with it, but she had seen it on various friend's faces at times. It was not something that she enjoyed seeing.
Now looking a bit sad, and worried for Blade, Katie lie back down and put her head on her paws. She looked up at the cat with her big, warm, soft, brown eyes, and her worried for him showed.

Blade looked down in surprise at Katie's worried frown. He had never really had a friend, back in the human place he had been avoided by other cougars, they said he was tame and humanized. And it is particularly hard to become friends with your prey. He HAD had friends but none had ever payed enough attention to him to be worried. Blade smiled dispelling the feeling of pain. "No need to worry" he laughed lowering his head. "'s nothing" he chuckled. Twitching his dark ears. He had always been a good liar, so hopefully she wouldn't question him further. Blade shuddered inwardly, it would hurt but maybe he should talk about it....

When Blade laughed, Katie hesitated, then gave a reassuring smile. She had always been a bit naive and assumed that when one said it was nothing, or it was okay, that they were being truthful. In fact, she usually assumed everyone was being truthful in everything. Maybe it was because she was naive, maybe because she saw the best in everyone. Maybe it was both.
Putting her worry for her friend aside, she got to her feet again. "Well, Blade, it was nice talking to you. I think I'll go look for something to eat now. Would you like to come with me?" She asked. Considering that it might be awhile before she found food or got out of this place, it would be nice to have a friend to talk to while she walked. Things could get awfully boring when you were by yourself.

Blade hopped up, his tail swished catching his huge paws and tripping him up. He went sprawling. Landing on his back his paws above him in the air. Blade rolled over pushed himself up and laughed. "Ive always sucked at getting around with this humongous tail!" he chuckled, catching his tail with one paw a curling it around his chest. He stopped his joking looking at Katie. "Lets hunt!" he called turning his topaz eyes on the desert around them, wondering what it would be lie to take down an prey animal with this Thylacine...
