"Ah, nothing like a couple of rays to start the day." The Komodo dragon pleasantly thought as it bathed in the sunlight, soaking it all in. It had always felt good, and Liz never started a morning without out at least spending a good hour sitting still and soaking up some warmth. There was nothing but peaceful quiet, a few patches of plants and not a single animal in sight. Smelling them was a different story. Liz flicked her blood red forked tongue out into the air every five seconds, picking up various scents and smells coming in all directions.
There were a few birds in a small frail tree, that usually meant a nest and of course breakfast. There were a few wild boar grazing a little ways off, an easy meal. Finally there was the best choice of them all, a single mouth watering water buffalo. What it was doing around here, Liz didn't know and she didn't seem to care. All she knew was where it was, how it smelled, and exactly how it would taste.
The komodo stretched for a few seconds and started at a slow pace towards the unsuspecting water buffalo, her tongue flicking out every other second now. She soon found her prey, just standing up with its eyes closed. She watched as every now and then its eyes would shoot back open and it would start to graze before its eyes would close once more. She waited for the perfect moment before she started at an all out run. By the time she reached her morning breakfast, she was going 11 mph. She quickly slammed into the hunk of meat and latched onto its leg, delivering a very toxic bite. Before the buffalo knew what was going on, Liz was already in an all out retreat.
It didn't take too long before the buffalo went down and she was hovering over the carcass, tearing out chunks of the delicious meat. It wasn't every day she caught a meal this big, and she was going to make sure she had her fill before any more predators came along.

Tyto was focused as an owl could be, she was on the pursuit of a very adjitating and fast jack rabbit. She had caught it mocking her, and she immediatly went after it not only for revenge but for her midday snack as well. She then found a good chance to catch her quary, as it turned a corner she began her death spiral and then at the last second opened her wing to break her and opened her talons. She gave the jack rabbit a quick snap of the neck, and landed were she had killed it to devour it. Only after a few seconds did she realize only a few feet away stood a huge menacing Komodo Dragon.

Basir quietly sunbathed, half asleep, at the tops of one of the few trees in the area. He blocked out the surrounding sounds of birds chirping and insects flying by, and kept his eyes closed to avoid distractions. He didn't much care about anything at the time, so long as nothing interrupted his half-nap.
As the two and a half foot long green lizard drifted off to sleep, he was completely unaware of the giant lizard of a different species below. He only realized the predator lurking down below as a thud signified something falling. His light amber eyes snapped open to see a downed water buffalo and a giant, hungry looking creature beside it.
The green basilisk didn't much mind that another animal had been killed in front of him. Like many others from the clan of Zilanthin, he saw death as a good thing. He merely sat and watched the creature devour the motionless beast. At the sound of swooping wings, however, he turned his crested head to see an owl dive in for it's own kill. This struck Basir's instinct to survive, and he kept quiet, not wanting the owl to decide to have him for a meal as well.
Realizing instinct was trying to take over, the basilisk lizard shook the thought away, reminding him of his beliefs. He would not be controlled totally by instinct. Still, he didn't have much to say, so he just waited and watch the two bigger animals.

She was only half way to finishing her meal when her tongue caught a new scent...a very close new scent. She swung off the carcass and looked to see just who it was that was so close. Liz expected it to be another predator coming in for a closer look, but it was just an owl, tearing into a puny little rabbit. Liz flicked her tongue towards the two, tasting the owl first and then her meal. The owl was just a small hunk of meat which wasn't even worth going after. Besides, it would probably fly away if she charged towards it. She quickly turned back to her meal and rose up beside it, putting her full front half over the carcass and starting to tear into it once more. She tore off a chunk, swung it up in the air and felt it fall directly into her mouth. She chewed for a second or two before swallowing it whole. She then turned to look back at the owl.
"How do silent one?" She asked the owl, referring to how owls never seemed to make a sound when they flew. Liz always pondered over why this was and could never really figure out the answer. "Enjoying the day I hope." She commented quickly before tearing out another large chunk of meat and devouring it. She was aware of the lizard a distance off and looked over in its direction, almost as if staring right at it before going back to her meal. Liz always at all times knew where every animal was around her. It was for safety reasons and great knowledge for when she was hungry.

You could say so, I guess Tyto replied with a slight snuff. She then looked at some sort oof lizard in a tree, paying it no heed as it was not of her taste to eat reptiles. She returned her gaze to the larger lizard. How do, uh, scaly one? The name's Tyto. What's yours?

The little green lizard decided there wasn't much to see, so he closed his eyes and simply enjoyed the sun. It wasn't as pleasurable as he had hoped, however. A few seconds after his eyes closed, images of his past flashed in his head. They were all of his near death experience in the ocean. Of the ox that had been startled by his appearance and how it had tried to gore him with it's horns, instead ending up throwing him a ways into the ocean. The salty water battering him. His muscles ached as he desperately tried to fight the current. A wave pushed him under and it took all his effort to make it back to the surface in time. A large fish swam underneath him, eying the easy meal. He was only saved because a shark had come by and chased the fish off. It hadn't bothered with Basir. He was too small to make much of a meal. His thoughts from then on blurred together and his vision flickered.
The basilisk was not asleep, but in an almost trance like state. He wanted to open his eyes and rid himself of the horrible movie slide show playing in his mind, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. As he relived the nasty tasting water seeping into his lungs and the world spinning before him, the present day lizard breathed faster, while the one in his memory coughed and sputtered before his lungs gave up and everything went black.
Basir's light-amber colored eyes suddenly snapped open and he took in a huge breath of air through his nostrils. Only then did he realize he had stopped breathing just as the green creature in his memory did. Memory? He thought, confused. With a relieved tone, he repeated the word in his head. Memory...... Just a memory....
Basir swallowed nervously as his eyes took in his surroundings again. He then remembered the komodo and the owl. Maybe talking would help him forget. about his past pain. Past. It's in the past, he reminded himself as he speed-climbed down the tree at great pace. It's over....
Just before he reached the ground, the lizard hopped down, taking off at a slower pace just as he landed. He stopped when he was only about five feet from the larger animals, showing no fear of them.
"Sorry to butt in," he said, "but I could use a good talk." He gave a bit of a grim smile. He was never afraid to admit his mistakes, his past, or really anything. He was an open book. That didn't mean he offered everything up. There just wasn't any point to explaining why he needed a good talk unless they asked.

Liz stifled a chuckle and continued to gulp down the meat before paying attention to the owl once more. "You should eat the rabbit as quick as you can. Berries may sustain some meat eaters, but the smell of a fresh kill will drive them back to their old ways. The scaly one's name is Liz." She replied before her head snapped forward to watch the lizard scurry towards them. "A good talk can go along way, but in the wrong direction offers no solace." Liz hissed to the lizard before her head disappeared into the carcass and back out with a chunk of meat in her mouth. After she gulped that down she stared directly into the lizard's eyes.
"Apologize when you are truly sorry, not when you are not. A talk is something that you need small one, to heal the wounds on the inside. Ether one confronts them, or one ignores them and I think you've been ignoring them for far too long." Liz could see that something was bothering the lizard a bit too much. Whether or not it would take the step to healing would be its own choice. Of course Liz realized she could be wrong and the lizard perfectly fine, but she knew enough about inner pain to see a little bit of it in the lizard's eyes. Besides, what little lizard scurried towards two predators to just have a "talk"? "You may talk about it or not, it does not really matter to me. What is your name anyway little one?" Liz asked, her voice slightly muffled by the carcass walls as she went back in for another bite.

Tyto picked at the rabbits' carcass and swallowed tid bits, huge to her but to the Komodo probably too small. She listend to Liz's words and churred (owl form of laughter) and replied Wise words, reptile. But isn't that an owls' job? She churred, referring to how humans referred owls as to being wise, not that they were'nt. She gave the lizard a stare, and hopped a bit closer to it, as only burrowing owls could walk properly. So, how do green one? Please, excuse my nosieness and state your name please. The names' Tyto.

Basir blinked before speaking. This larger lizard talked much differently than most. She seemed wise. He wasn't quite sure if her first words were meant as an insult, or not, but he figured they were just words and put the thought aside.
"I haven't been ignoring wounds long since past, but when confronting them time and time again gets you no where, one tends to ignore the feeling and simply put the feelings aside. A change of oneself can't take place overnight," the small reptile replied. Try as he might, he could neither get over his pain nor forget about it. He had more become numb to it. He still occasionally saw the visions of death and despair looming over him. As soon as he would realize they were a dream, sometimes an awake-dream, he wouldn't care much about them. He saw no darkness particularly in those memories, but he also could see no light anywhere in the entire world now.
The basilisk turned his attention to the owl as it, spoke, then looked from Liz, to the owl who now identified herself as Tyto. "Basir," he said simply. "Greetings."

A hiss could be heard from within the carcass. She was beginning to like this owl and it's company. Perhaps it would make a good friend later on, you never know. "Well Basir," Liz continued as she stuck her head up over her meal. "my name is Liz in case you're wondering." She hissed and flicked out her forked tongue. She smelled the lizard and tasted it. It was just as she had thought, not much of a snack, so it would be safe when food became harder to find...if it ever did. "Ah, ignoring is still ignoring but I can see the problem. Changing over night would be an almost impossible feat indeed, but the process is not impossible. You can still change, yes, over time, like the caterpillar into a butterfly you will change. The question you must ask yourself," She said and paused to flick her tongue in the air, a worried look on her face. "is if you want to change."
She then looked over to the owl, almost as if she were sending the information to her mind. Something she smelled wasn't right. Her tongue flicked out every second and she started to become slightly agitated. What's more, she had no clue of what she was picking up, something she never came across before but worried her all the same. For all she knew it could be something like a raccoon, or it could turn out to be some bloodthirsty predator. Ether way it was always good to be ready for anything. She backed off of her carcass and stared in the direction of what ever it was. It felt like it was staring right back at her. From the smell it wasn't moving but just sitting a distance off...like it was watching all of them...or more like Liz's carcass, ether way it sent shivers down Liz's scales.

That's a silly question. Of course I want it to change! Why would any creature want to live in such awful feelings? Well, at least I would want to change, but I have become accustom to it and numb, so it doesn't matter much to me, the smaller lizard thought. When he realized how confusing that all would sound to Liz, though it made perfect sense to him, he decided not to reply. He simply gave her a twitch of his front legs which was a lizard's way of a shrug.
This large reptile confused Basir. She was wise, and spoke in half-riddles, but that wasn't the confusing part, for Basir was sometimes seen as wise as well. It the was the fact that there were many ways he could answer her. Such as the question she said he should ask himself. That could be answered in so many ways besides yes and no.
The basilisk noticed Liz was acting a bit weird and staring hard in one direction. He turned his amber eyes in the same direction, but noticed nothing. He took in a deep breath and gave a flick of his tongue, but couldn't smell anything. Then again, with Komodos being predators of larger animals, they probably had a better sense of smell, so Basir assumed.
