Name: Bright Eyes
Age Group: Adolescent
Gender: Male
Clan: None
Herd: None
Mate: None
Friends: Darkscale
Family: He has come to think of Darkscale as his father, can’t remember if he has any other family.
Species: Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)
Physical Description:
Bright Eyes plumage colors range from light brown body with yellowish tint, to a striking gold around his crown and nape. The upper wings also have an irregular golden area with darker brown as you move toward the tips. He has “bright” blue eyes that are his name sake that seem to darken or lighten with his mood and intentions.
Personality:
Bright Eyes is a mischievous character with an extreme flair for drama, and a mercurial personality that switches between a jester and a more seriously ominous presence. While he can be condescending and threatening, Bright Eyes spends more of his energy trying to be liked and learning from others instead of picking at wounds that should be left well enough alone. He is quite intelligent, but the way he carries himself and his humorous attitude towards situations that call for a more professional approach, would make others question that very fact. A nuisance to most without patience, Bright Eyes toes the thin line between curious and annoying with his constant stream of questions and inquisitive joke infested conversations.
Voice Identity: John De Lancie
History:
Bright Eyes was born in the wild to a pair of Eagles that had almost no sense of humor. Neither one could tolerate the young eaglet’s pestering of the his nest mate to hear or tell a joke nor the constant want for the attention of his parents. He was to put it lightly...A handful. Their nest was on a telephone line near a gas station and it had become the flocking zone for many a tourist who wanted pictures of the majestic birds and their young. This was both Bright Eyes calling and his downfall, as he would pose for pictures on the end of the nest without fear of being caught by the many humans who would get right underneath the pole for the perfect shot.
Two such humans had the brilliant idea to snatch one of the eaglets from the nest while the parents were out hunting. It was a simple task, climb the pole, grab a baby and slide down. What they didn’t figure in was the possibility of one of the adults return. Bright Eyes’s father, Valon, was the first to return and what he saw was a human halfway up the pole with one hand in the nest, gripping Bright Eyes by one of his legs. He came pelting toward the nest, screeching loudly, talons extended in an attempt to scare off or maul the predator handling his offspring. But the attempt was both futile and stupid. The human couldn’t hold on to the pole and the eaglet at the same time and still have an arm free for protecting his face and upper body.
With a yell, the man plummeted from the pole and hit the ground hard, dropping Bright Eyes to free a hand for breaking his fall. The sickening sound of crunching bones met the ears of the worried parent bird, and by this time Bright Eyes’s mother, White Soul, had returned. Both birds took up the offense and started to attack the downed human in an effort to get Bright Eyes back, but his companion whisked the young bird away from Valon’s gentle claws and tossed him into the backseat of a car.
The rest of the voyage and his early life within the circus was a blur and really left no impression on the brain of the young eagle. Until the day he met Darkscale, Bright Eyes was used to chase fake birds back and forth through hoops and to ‘talk’ for the crowd. It was the fact that he liked to pose for pictures and would open his mouth to mimic the movement of how people talked, that got him his spot in the ring. He was known as “The Amazing Talking Eagle” or “Ted the Talking Eagle”. His act was simple, open and close his beak while the ventriloquist spoke to the audience and when the ventriloquist rubbed his fingers across his talons, Bright Eyes had to flap his wings. That trick was used when a more angry or excited tone had to be used to respond to a question from the audience. It was hard work, even for a bird that wasn’t really talking, his mouth was so dry after only ten minutes in the ring and their act was over thirty minutes long.
Enough was enough. That day was the turning point in his career. Bright Eyes met Darkscale two days after he swore he would escape from this dungeon and head out to see the world as it should be. This meeting delayed his attempt at freedom and he made a mental promise to take this poor fellow with him when he left... And that day came at last.
The show was a new one. This time the ventriloquist would do his normal routine, but have the eagle, tame the snake. At first, it didn’t occur to Bright Eyes to add up the numbers. The fact that the box below his cage that belonged to Darkscale, had been taken out to the ring, and that they were going to use a snake, didn’t register. In his mind, one plus one did not equal two. Darkscale did not equal snake. But once he laid eyes on the dark colored reptile, he knew it was his friend Darkscale and a plan to get out was placed firmly in his mind.
Two wing beats is all it took to take off from his ground level perch that Hugo the Ventriloquist had placed him on, and glide over to Darkscale, snatch him up in a gentle hold and exit the tent.
Though now he was lost, the tent was gone and Darkscale himself seemed a little on edge.....Oh well...Let the games begin!
