Today was a good day. Falcon could feel it. The feeling ran deep down, through is bones and veins, even though the Peregrine had only just woken, and was watching the sun rise. He sat, perched on a branch in a tall tree that sat on the top of a large hill. Today, he would fly towards the sun, hoping to finally complete his journey.
Falcon went over the last few hours of light he had spent yesterday, as he waited for the sun to rise. He had found a roost, the one he was still in now, with some time before nightfall. Falcon had then gone off and scouted the area ahead for something to do. He slowly gained altitude, mainly using thermals to gain height. He glided over the land, and was surprised to see a large variety of land below him. Canyons, fields, desserts, and a large ocean, lay below, stretching as far as Falcon could see. This instantly made him curious, but also slightly depressed. If he didn’t find a suitable territory soon, he would be forced to cross the seemingly endless ocean. He went into a shallow dive, and met another avian in the sky. Falcon almost attacked it, but he wasn’t hungry and he never attacked prey for fun. Falcon was surprised when he realised he couldn’t remember the other’s name. Normally, Falcon had a good memory, and this one case of him forgetting something troubled him deeply. However, in his conversation, Falcon learned that this land was called Amanija, and was home to many animals, terra, air, and even aqua based. All animals were mostly at peace with each other, and while some carnivores killed for food, they never killed a herbivore friend. Falcon was curious that carnivores were able to make friends with prey. He also learned that beasts became leader of herds and clans, which often contained a mixture of animals, not just one species.
”Maybe this isn’t such a bad place after all,” Falcon thought to himself. He personally liked the idea of leading a herd or clan, even co-leading wasn’t a disgusting thought. He then asked the other avian if there were lands still unclaimed. He had stated that there were, and had also pointed them out to him. Falcon liked the one called “Fate’s Canyon”, and decided he would explore it more tomorrow. He bid he avian good night, and looped back to his roost and landing with just enough time to preen himself before night fell.
Falcon was pleased, as the end of his search was hopefully at an end. He brought himself out of his thoughts, and glanced around him. The shadows were no longer long, and so, Falcon did a quick preen and launched himself of the branch. He glided downwards, parallel to the hillside. When he gained enough speed, his took himself into a climb, and quickly found a thermal. He spun ‘round and ‘round, and, when he gained enough height, he flew off in the direction of Fate’s Canyon.
When Falcon had arrived at this empty territory, he was happy. The sky was limitless, and there were enough trees for him to take roost in at night. However, the sun was blistering hot on his back. He flew down into the canyon in search of shade. Falcon saw some areas, and made a mental note of them, that terra animals could possibly fall off, and plummet downwards. Without realising, he flew into a deep cave. He did realize when he was inside though, as it was noticeably cooler. There was plenty of fresh water around, and strange plants and trees that grew in the cave floor, without sunlight. Falcon would probably end up living here, not in the scorching sun.
Falcon suddenly had an urge to call out to all the empty land. He flapped quickly, and rushed out of the cave. He flew up the gorge and landed on a tree that teetered on the edge. He judged that this was about center of the land, and so chose this spot. He called out twice. The first time was a loud screech he used to get animal’s attention focused on him. The then called out: ”My name is Falcon, a lone Peregrine no more. I claim this land as my own, and I wish to share it with all beast kind. May animals who wish to join me in this secluded haven do so freely. They shall be welcomed here.”
Falcon then took to the skies, flying as high as his wings would let him. He then entered a steep dive, steeper than he had done before. The wind whipped at him, threatening to throw him out of his dive. Falcon held himself steady though, and just before it was too late, he flared his wings and pulled out of his dive, ten centimetres above the ground. The then glided as far as he could. Falcon did a rolling turn, and headed back the way he came. Soon, he landed on the teetering tree, and perched there, surveying the land that was now his.
