All was silent and peaceful. The forest had a nice warmth to it and a light breeze could be felt every now and then. The birds called out to each other and the howls from the monkeys reached for miles upon miles on end. All were happy and content and lazy. Nothing of importance seemed to be happening, it was just a lazy day. A few rabbits came out of a hole beside a large tree and started to mill about. A few lizards sunbathed on some rocks that caught the light of the sun.
A deer nearby stopped eating and looked up. A funny little yellow speck was in the distance. How funny it looked, the deer snorted at it and dipped its head to munch on a few blades of grass before looking back up again. The speck had become a small dot. The deer tilted its head slightly to the side and then snorted again, it still looked funny. After swallowing the grass and picking up some more, he looked up and went into shock. It's eyes grew wide, it's ears flew up and it opened its mouth and let out a scream.
"SSSSHHHNOOOOOOW!!!" The yellow streak screamed with delight as it jumped clear over the poor deer and hit the ground running. The deer fell silent and then became stiff as a board. "WHOOOOOOSH!" The flash of yellow exclaimed as it doubled back and jumped over the deer once more. Again it easily cleared it and hit the ground running. The deers eyes seemed to roll back in its head, its mouth wide open before it finally fell flat on its side, still stiff as a board. "AWWWW!! It fainted!!" The cheetah sourly pointed out. As she streaked by the deer again, she looked at it until she had to adjust her head.
"WOOOOAH! WATCH OUT!" She screamed as if she wasn't the one controlling her body. A tree came up fast and she did what she used to do when she was young. She ran straight up the tree and and out along a branch upside down, still running. The second she felt she was going to fall, she flipped back down to the ground, quick as lightning. Even gravity seemed to be having a tough time controlling this cat. She scattered the rabbits as she zoomed by, laughing all the way. She then leaped over the sunbathing lizards who just blinked as the cheetah's shadow blocked the sun for a second or two.
The monkeys let out their howls, warning anything on the ground to be careful, a predator or something like that was on the loose. After their calls they cheered the yellow flash on, laughing at its antics. "YEEEEEHAAAAA!" Nara screamed out as she ran up a large rock that jutted out of the mud and launched herself into the air. She flew into the air over a small ditch and finally landed in the mud, causing some of it to fly up into the air. She uncontrollably laughed for a few moments before she got up and shook off the mud. She then slowly walked out of the muddy ditch, a smile on her face. She had worked out the energy in her system...for now, but it would be back in no time.
The animals watched her, getting a good glimpse of the new comer. She was thin, but looked well fed. She had trillions of spots covering her yellow fur. The cheetah had dark green eyes and looked perfectly streamlined. She had sharp claws that seemed to be visible at all times, and she had a long fuzzy tail. She seemed just like any other cat except for the fact her claws were constantly visible.
Nara giggled as she pictured the look on the deer's face when she had closed in on it. If she wanted it, it would have been hers. She wasn't hungry at the moment, so she'd let it live. Making them faint had been an interesting reaction she discovered not to long ago. The zebras and gazelle never did this, so this...deer, was a much easier catch. Nara looked around at her surroundings. Everything was so green and lush, nothing like the dead yellow grass and trees she was accustomed to seeing. It was like a new adventure, waiting for her to discover. Exploring here seemed almost like...what did the humans call it? A...fairy tale?

Evangeline had been watching a tiny caterpillar slowly inch along the ground. It was a bit boring, as it was something she had to do sitting still. On the other hand, it was funny how it moved and the way it looked up at her like she had lost her mind was funny too. The little green bug moved so slow, though. Evangeline imagined if that were her. She snorted with disgust. I'd die. What's the fun in being a slow poke? she thought.
Bored, as the curiosity was wearing off, she lifted her large head, just as she heard a scream. She perked her ears and turned toward the sound. The scream didn't sound like an animal being attacked. The okapi wasn't actually sure what it sounded like. So, she couldn't resist finding out.
The horse-like animal started out at a slow gallop, before increasing her speed as her curiosity grew. Maybe the noise was another animal looking for someone to play with! Oh, that would be great! Evangeline was one who always hated being alone. That made it a little stressful for her, as the Messenger wasn't allowed to join a herd or even a clan. Still, she took her job very seriously. Her ambition kept her going on her mission to be the best Messenger Amanija had ever seen.
The chestnut colored animal skidded to a stop as she spotted a spotted cat racing around, apparently playing. Her navy eyes looked down slightly to see a deer lying still on the ground. Had the cat killed it for a meal? No.... The deer didn't look hurt. What was wrong with it then? No matter. At least there is another animal here. And boy, she looks like she'd like to play a game or two. She smiled as the cat plunged into the mud.
Evangeline quickly closed the distance between her and the cat, not afraid of the predator. "Hey! You there! What're ya' doin'?" She asked, stretching her neck to one side while keeping her head level. She blinked her dark eyes, realizing how much fun it would be to run around with this cat, whatever it was. A jaguar maybe?
A spark of excitement in her eyes, the okapi suddenly began laughing and ran around the cat in a wide circle. She wasn't as fast, but that didn't stop her from her game. She pushed herself as fast as she could go and ran straight for the cat, moving to the side at the last minute to avoid collision. She then stopped and pushed her front legs out further, sticking her striped rump higher in the air, much like a playful puppy. "So what's your name, stranger?"

Nara's head snapped towards the sound of someone talking. What was she doing? WHAT WAS SHE DOING? Why having fun of course, what else? "I'm having some fuuuuun!!" She excitedly exclaimed. Just what in the world was this animal before her? Was it a zebra? No, maybe it was a deer? Or...both? It could be both mixed in, you never know. Was it a prey animal though? It looked like it was. It definitely was if it was the offspring of a zebra and a deer. She wasn't hungry though, and this thing looked like it could be fun, so it was safe from her teeth and her deadly speed.
What was it doing now?! Nara wondered as she watched and giggled at the thing as it ran around her in circles. It wanted to play! That's what it was! Finally, someone to play with! "My names Nara! What's yours?" The cheetah asked back and geared up to chase the animal around, this could be fun! She started to jump and bound around the animal, circling her just like she had done to Nara. She could tell this was going to be loads of fun.
Well...Nara was hoping this was going to be fun. She hoped it wouldn't get scared and faint like the deer over...there...did? She snapped her head to look at the deer that was now gone from its place. Then she noticed it trying to sneak off and she laughed. That was one smart deer. At the sound of the laughter the deer flinched and then bolted off into the bushes. "Ahhhhh, he's no fuuuun!" Nara pouted, she had hoped it would stay or something.

"Evangeline," she replied in one word, a smile on her face as the feline prepared to play the "game" with her. The okapi took off running slightly before the cat did. She knew she'd have to try and outsmart her, since the larger animal didn't have the speed that the streamlined cat did. Not that it really mattered if she got caught, as it was only play. She knew by the way the other ran that this was not a predator attacking her.
Evangeline ran in a zig zag pattern in the middle of the circle the cat ran in. She loved watching how fast it could go, and wanted to experiment with something, that, if it worked, could indeed be quite funny. She waited until about the time the cat zipped by to join in the circle, trying to make it look like she was chasing the carnivore. Of course, Nara's speed was no match for Evangeline's, and the okapi began to get behind in what would be a failed chasing attempt, if that was really what it had been. Instead, Evangeline suddenly thrust out her front and back legs to put on the "brakes." She can to an almost abrupt stop, then turned her head to look behind her to see if the cat would end up running into her or not. If she did, it wouldn't really hurt the large zebra-animal. Besides, it was always funny watching someone run right into something else. And, if Nara was able to prevent from running into her, it would probably be interesting to see, as her speed was already interesting.

Nara was somewhat surprised when she failed to spot the okapi in the middle of her circle but as she continued to run in a circle she caught a glimpse of the thing right behind her. She was fast too! This only made Nara laugh and push her self faster but something was wrong. As she continued the circle she saw that Evangeline had stopped. WHAT WAS SHE DOING? Nara couldn't stop her self in time and going in a circle for as long as she had, her body was used to it and couldn't pull out of it...oh well.
She knew what she had to do...and hoped her new friend wouldn't get hurt because of it. Nara leapt up, her two front paws, especially her claws, landed on the okapi's rear end and pushed down and then back. Nara hoped her front claws didn't dig in too much as she went. The push sent her flying above but it wasn't over yet. It was time for the back legs and the big kick. As her back paws came forward and then down into the skin, they pushed off hard and Nara managed to shout, "SORRY!" before she was airborne. She flew past the top of Evangeline and...of course...right into a tree. Her whole body hit it with a loud THWACK! And then she fell backward off it and fell to the ground on her back before rolling over on her side. Her eyes were closed and the world had gone black.

"YOUCH!" Evangeline whimpered as she felt claws digging into her back, whilst Nara soared over her. She was strong enough that the kick off from the cheetah didn't bother her, but those claws were sharp! She forgot all about them as she turned her head to watch and saw the spotted cat fly right into a tree, then fall to the ground. The okapi was silent a moment before suddenly bursting out laughing. Well, it certainly had been interesting, if not in the way she expected!
The Messenger then galloped over to her new friend. She wasn't too worried about her. Evangeline simply never worried about anything. So, as she surveyed the damage, she lowered her head so that she was almost nose to nose with the cheetah. She quietly stared at Nara's closed eyes and blinked once. After a suspended moment, as if she couldn't think of something sensible to say, she blurted out in a flat tone, "you hit the tree."

"you hit the tree."
The first words Nara heard once she regained hearing cause her to start to crack up. Her eyes fluttered open and she started to laugh as she rolled back onto her feet. "I knoooooow huuuuh?! Did you seeee that? It was so coooool! I was like whooooooosh, BAM!" Nara excitedly exclaimed and even made the sound affects with ease.
"OH! I'm sorry my claws dug into you, it was the only thing I could think of to do. You ok? You hurt? Need help? Need to lie down? Need anything? Huh?" Nara asked at a million miles per hour. She didn't want her new friend to be hurt because of her. It'd make her sad and feel guilty but then of course she'd try and make it all better by getting her to laugh and laughing always helped in any situation...usually it did. Nara tilted her head as she tried to figure out what exactly her friend was. It was some kind of deer and zebra combined for sure...and Naya thought that was cool.

Evangeline flicked an ear in mild surprise. This creature had just knocked herself out and yet she was already laughing. Evangeline had been expecting her to laugh at the situation, as it was quite funny, but she hadn't expected so this soon. After she got over the surprise, she joined in the laughing, only laughing more when the cheetah began making sound effects and retelling the tale.
The okapi shook her head. "Nah, it's okay. It only hurt a little," she said, half way lying. She turned her head to look at her striped rump, noticing a few red drops of blood on her coat. She hadn't lied on purpose, anyway. She just never seemed to notice pain when there was even an ounce of fun going on. Besides, she'd been in worse s-blocked-es than this.
Evangeline turned back to look at Nara. She was a funny animal, not like anything Evangeline had come across before. She had seen her share of spotted cats, even a few cheetahs before, but it was Nara's personality that stood out. The hooved animal was reminded much of herself. Unable to ever keep her thoughts quiet, she vocalized this.
"You seem a lot like me. I bet we'd be good friends," she said, giving a wide animal-smile.
"So whatcha wanna do now?" Evangeline asked, galloping around Nara. She was always ready to play and never ready to stop. The only reason she ever got her job done was that she looked at being the Messenger as one big game.

"Nah, it's okay. It only hurt a little."
"Oh Good!! I wouldn't want to hurt my new bestest best friend! That would suck big time! And it would make me feel bad, and I'd be guilty, and I'd be sorry, and you might not want to play with me again, and I'd get bored again, and I'd be friendless, and I...um...where was I going with this again...oh right! Good thing you're not hurt badly!" Slowing down in talking was a hard thing to learn but Nara had picked it up...she just chooses not to use it half the time, or forgets to.
"You seem a lot like me. I bet we'd be good friends"
"Oh yes, bestest of friends we'll be!! We'll have so much fun, every day we'll play and explore!! Ooooh that would be soooo fuuuun!" Nara replied happily, she wanted a "bestest friend" in this new place of hers and who better then Evangline?
"So whatcha wanna do now?"
"We could explore, we could play some more, we can run around we can...we can...we...OH OH OH!!! I know, we can raaaaace!! We can race somewhere. That should be loads of fun! So we racing? Where should we go? What's the starting line, where does it end?" Nara asked at a bazillion miles per hour, she loooooooved to race and that was a big understatement.

Evangeline was flattered at Nara's talk of best friends. The okapi's ears flickered excitedly at the words and a giggle escaped her mouth. "Right! Best friends!" She agreed, giving a sharp nod of her head. She certainly could see being best friends the with cheetah. They didn't know each other well yet, but already they seemed to enjoy being around each other, and they were bound to become closer as they got to know each other better.
"The race starts here and it ends at the pond in that direction," she said, pointing to her left with her nose in case Nara wasn't familiar with the area. Evangeline's tone was raising to a higher pitch and a louder volume, as well as a faster pace. She was getting excited and being around Nara was making her hyper. The okapi shifted her weight around, raising a hooved foot and putting it back down again, unable to stay still from all the excitement. "Ready, set, go," she shouted, as fast as she could blurt the words out. Without hesitating even a fraction of a second, she ran as fast as she could for the pond, hoping the head start would be enough. She knew a cheetah was much faster than an okapi, however, okapis have a very large amount of stamina and can run for longer than most any animal, while cheetahs are the opposite. Slow and steady wins the race, right? Wrong. At least, wrong in Evangeline's mind.
