Falcon stretched lazily in the early morning gloom. It was surprisingly chilly; it was cold enough for the water to actually form dew, rather than evaporating instantly. This sudden change bothered Falcon slightly, but it was morning, and Falcon was not a morning bird at all. After all, Falcon didn’t eat worms, so he felt no need to be the early bird. He glanced around the small cave that he roosted in. It was part of a somewhat complex system of inter connected caverns. However, this one was smaller than average, and was set farthest from the entrance in the cliffs. Falcon had chosen this to be his roost mainly because it was coolest, but there were also fruit trees that bore the only fruit that he considered edible. There was also a slightly elevated pond, which sat right in the middle of his roosting cave. There was an edge that allowed him to land by it, which allowed him to drink or clean himself without damaging his talons or falling in.
After an extended yawn, Falcon flew over to this pond, and perched at the edge. He drunk until he wasn’t thirsty, and quickly cleaned his feathers. After all, if an animal appeared that wished to join his herd, it wouldn’t do Falcon any good to look like he hadn’t bathed in many months. He looked down at his reflection, eyeing himself. He wasn’t a bad looking bird, in his opinion. It was also closing on the time to find a mate, something Falcon was some what looking forward to, as it required him to show off, something he did on a regular basis anyway. After some extended preening, Falcon took off, and flew through the connected caverns, winding his way to the surface. He still was in awe of the ability of the plants that grew here, since they not only were able to grow through rock, but they were also able to bare fruit.
When Falcon got to the open air of the surface, he flew straight to the teetering tree, and perched on it. The sky was completely overcast, which was probably the cause for the chilly air. He attempted to sun himself for sometime, before giving up and taking to the skies.
