Herd ranks are simple, as there are very few of them, but there can be many of each. The ranks are listed from highest to lowest. All herd members know how to do the basics of each rank, but only those of a certain rank are allowed to preform and know the advanced knowledge that comes with their title. All new members start off as a Shadow, but if the leader sees fit, and the new member can handle the job, the Fang will have them skip the Apprenticeship and become a full fledged member of whatever rank they had wanted.
Current Fangs: Filtiarn
Current Shadows: Fisi
FANGS: They are the heads of the herd. Your leaders/rulers, whatever you want to call them. They are to be respected at all times. It is their job to lead and protect you.
TEACHERS: It’s obvious what the Teacher’s job is. The Teacher tutors others in many arts, such as food gathering and dispensing, defending, leading and healing. Though only those who are of that rank are allowed to ‘practice’ the skills. For example: If a Teacher Lion tutors an owl in how to dispense food, but his rank is a Healer, he is not allowed to dispense food about as that is not his job. Teachers are former members of one of the other ranks, they still hold their former title, but they cannot carry out the duties that their former title entailed. Their job is to teach apprentices how to take on the role they had.
WARRIORS: These are the guardians of the herd, they assist the Fangs in protecting the herd from danger. It is also their job to teach basic protection skills to other herd members and show them the ‘safe’ and ‘danger’ zones of the land.
HEALERS: Obvious, they heal wounds and assist in birthings and deaths. Their job is to fix any damages you may have acquired in your duties. They also help new herd members into the world and watch over those who are leaving it.
GIVERS: They are the most trusted members of the herd, as their task is to take and dispense the food that the Gatherers turn over to them. Gathered food is stored for times when there is no food about, or when it is hard to come by. At times when food is plentiful, herd members can find and eat their own food on their own time without having to wait for a Giver to announce a time to feed, though it is suggested the herd members wait to eat and dine together when the Giver says so. No one is exempt from the rule, not even the Fangs.
GATHERERS: Gatherers find food in the herd’s territory and turn it over to the Givers for dispensing. You can hold the title of Gatherer and hold another as well, but you cannot be a Gatherer and a Giver.
APPRENTICES: These are herd members who are learning the skills of a certain title from one or more of the title holders. They loose the rank of apprentice once their teacher says they have earned their place in that rank. The Fang will then make them a full member of that rank. Apprentices teach shadows how to become Apprentices, once one of the Shadows they teach reaches the rank of Apprentice, the Apprentice who taught the Shadow can go to his teacher and ask to be tested and gain his new title as full fledged member of whatever he was going for.
SHADOWS: Shadows are apprentices in training. They can be of any rank, and only loose the title of shadow once they become a full fledged apprentice. They can be a Shadow of more than one rank, which means that they can learn all of the basic tricks of all the ranks, but once they near Apprentice-hood, they have to pick one rank to become an apprentice of. Shadows learn from the Apprentices above them, not the Teachers, it is the Apprentice’s job to relay the teacher’s knowledge to the Shadow.
